What website development actually costs in India
Website quotes in India span from ₹25,000 template installs to ₹15 lakh custom builds. The number means little without scope, stack, content readiness and who maintains the site after launch.

The direct answer
In India, a credible business website typically costs ₹75,000–₹3,50,000 for a WordPress or hybrid service site with custom design, 8–20 pages, forms and basic SEO setup. Next.js or headless builds often run ₹2,50,000–₹8,00,000+. Template-only sites under ₹50,000 exist but rarely include strategy, performance work or maintainable content structure.
Cost ranges by site type (2026)
These are market ranges we see on qualified RFPs in Delhi NCR and pan-India, not a Brightcode price list. Your quote depends on discovery. We scope website development after goals and content readiness are clear.
Site type | Typical range (INR) | What you usually get |
|---|---|---|
Template / starter brochure | ₹25,000 – ₹75,000 | Theme install, minimal customisation, limited pages |
Custom WordPress service site | ₹75,000 – ₹3,50,000 | Custom design, CMS, forms, basic SEO, staging |
Next.js marketing site + headless CMS | ₹2,50,000 – ₹8,00,000+ | Performance-focused build, CMS modelling, integrations |
Multi-language / large content site | ₹4,00,000 – ₹12,00,000+ | Complex IA, localisation workflow, governance |
Ongoing retainer (post-launch) | ₹15,000 – ₹80,000 / month | Updates, SEO, CRO, support — scope-dependent |
What drives price up
Integrations and migration are often underestimated. If you are moving platforms, budget redirect planning separately; see our website migration checklist.
- Custom design system vs adapted template.
- Page count and unique templates, not duplicate layouts.
- Copywriting, photography and illustration sourced by the agency.
- CRM, payment, booking or ERP integrations.
- Multilingual content and hreflang setup.
- Migration with URL mapping and redirect rules.
- Accessibility, performance and security requirements treated as engineering.
- Training, documentation and post-launch support window.
What drives price down
You provide final copy, brand assets and approved wireframes. That removes revision cycles and keeps agencies focused on build quality.
You accept a proven component library or theme foundation with selective customisation instead of pixel-perfect bespoke pages everywhere.
Scope is fixed early: defined page list, one form type, standard analytics, no custom app features disguised as “just a small calculator.”
You have internal or freelance content support after launch so the agency is not the bottleneck for every text change.
Lower cost should not mean skipped staging, no backups, or no performance testing. Those are not luxury items.
Hidden costs buyers forget
Hosting and CDN: ₹3,000–₹25,000+ per month depending on traffic and stack. Managed WordPress or Vercel-style hosting costs more than shared hosting but saves incident time.
Domains, SSL, email setup, premium plugins or CMS seats.
Stock imagery, icon sets and font licensing.
Legal pages, cookie consent and privacy compliance for your markets.
SEO content production beyond baseline metadata — see SEO content structure.
Year-two maintenance: security patches, plugin updates, broken form fixes. WordPress sites without a care plan degrade; read WordPress security basics.
How to compare quotes fairly
Ask each vendor for the same line items: design rounds, page templates, CMS training, integrations, launch checklist, warranty period and ownership of code/hosting.
A ₹1.2 lakh quote that excludes copy, SEO setup and mobile performance testing is not comparable to a ₹2.5 lakh quote that includes them.
Be wary of unlimited revisions or unlimited pages at very low price points. Scope creep becomes quality collapse.
Stack affects lifetime cost, not only build cost. Next.js vs WordPress and WordPress vs custom website explain trade-offs that change year-two spend.
What Brightcode typically scopes
We quote after a short discovery call: business model, page map, content status, integrations and launch deadline. We do not publish one-size-fits-all packages because a 12-page clinic site and a 40-page B2B manufacturer site are different products.
Our builds prioritise Core Web Vitals, clear conversion paths and CMS workflows your team can actually use. If budget is tight, we will say what to phase: launch core pages first, add location hubs or blog structure in phase two.
